Material Quick Select Guide:
PVC
PVC is the most widely used material in the inflatable industry, offering a proven balance of performance and value. Our PVC features a high-strength polyester core with multi-layer coating, specifically engineered for the marine environment.
- Key Advantage (Value): The most cost-effective option, providing professional-grade performance at the lowest price point.
- Construction: 100% precision heat-welded seams for a structural bond that outlasts traditional glues.
- Weight: Highly portable and the lightest material in our lineup.
- Servicability: PVC boats are the easiest to glue and repair. Replacement parts are more readily available for future replacements.
- Best For: Recreational boating, fishing, and weekend adventures in standard UV conditions.
TPU
Thermoplastic Polyurethane (aka TPU) is the modern "super-material" of the inflatable world. It offers significantly higher abrasion and puncture resistance than PVC while remaining more affordable than Hypalon. It is the ideal choice for those who want a rugged, long-lasting boat without the weight or cost of rubber.
- Key Advantage (Performance Value): Offers premium durability and longevity at a price point significantly lower than Hypalon.
- Superior Durability: Exceptional resistance to scuffs, scrapes, and punctures.
- Welded Integrity: Like PVC, TPU allows for 100% heat-welded seams, ensuring a permanent, airtight bond.
- Eco-Friendly: A more environmentally conscious choice, as the manufacturing process is solvent-free.
- Best For: High-use environments, professional applications, and boaters seeking a "lifetime" material upgrade.
Hypalon (CSM)
Hypalon is a synthetic rubber (Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene) and is considered the legacy standard for extreme environmental resistance. It is specifically designed for boats that will live outdoors in the harshest conditions on Earth.
- Ultimate UV Protection: Virtually impervious to the degrading effects of intense tropical sun and high UV indexes.
- Chemical Resistance: Highly resistant to fuel spills, oil, and harsh cleaning chemicals.
- Construction: Must be assembled using a cold-bond manual gluing process; it cannot be welded like PVC or TPU.
- Longevity: Known for a 20+ year lifespan when properly maintained in extreme climates.
- Best For: Commercial/military use, and boats permanently stored on davits in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, or equatorial regions.
A custom Takacat is built to your exact specifications at our factory. Because these boats are made-to-order, they are subject to the following terms:
Lead Times & Delivery: Expected delivery is 90–120+ days from the date of your order. While we move as fast as possible, global logistics can be unpredictable. Please note that we do not offer refunds for timeline delays—don't wait until the last minute to order your custom boat!- Expedited Shipping: If you need your boat sooner, air-freight and expedited shipping from the factory are available for an additional fee. Reach out to our team at contactus@takacatna.com for an expedited-rates shipping quote.
- Payment Policy: Due to the specialized nature of custom colors and materials, all payments for Custom Ordered boats are non-refundable. Once the factory begins your build, the commitment is final.
- Warranty & Replacement: Your custom boat is protected by our standard Takacat warranty. While we stand behind every stitch, please be aware that we may not stock every custom component (like hot-pink hulls!) in our US warehouse. In the event of a warranty claim, specialized parts may be subject to production delays or color substitution if an exact match is not immediately available.
